The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, founded in 1952 as Florida’s first accredited medical school, has earned international acclaim for research, clinical care, and biomedical innovations, establishing the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center as among the best in the country.

Each year, the Miller School of Medicine faculty totaling over 1,000 full-time members treat one million patients in primary care and in over 30 specialties. The UM Health System includes The University of Miami Hospital, our partnership with Jackson Memorial Hospital, UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the Diabetes Research Institute, the Mailman Center for Child Development, and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. Our clinical presence expands beyond Miami with an MDVIP Practice in Key Biscayne, the University Internal Medicine Group in Palm Beach Gardens, and clinical facilities in Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton.

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), in 2007, nearly 1,500,000 people in the United States were diagnosed with cancer, and more than 500,000 people died from this disease. Translating research breakthroughs into more effective treatments remains one of UM’s highest priorities. It is the UM Miller School of Medicine’s hope to provide preventative measures and cutting edge research to ultimately find a cure for cancer.
